As I came across this into my pipe journey, I was recommended by many to try this blend. Gotta say, loving the breadiness in both the smell and taste. Very smooth for a Virginia blend, as I’ve tried some that get hot quickly and lose the flavor. This is not one of those blends! Comes out a little moist, but a 10 minute dry helps a lot. The smoke stays cool throughout the whole smoke! You don’t want to miss out on this!
Just one of the Best Virginia Flakes on the Market!
This years batch is still like a red wine as far as flavors. Not as sweet as previous years. Earthy, tangy like a dried cranberry, slightly sweet and a little spice.
would buy more!
Decent straight Virginia. Definitely not a replacement for some of the famous discontinued virginias. Much prefer the CRF with Perique. Will have to see how this one ages.
I have smoked this blend and I understand how that some reviewers have stated that they found it bland and one dimensional. That can happen to Virginia blends, especially if it's had time to age. The aging process is fermentation and the tin can swell. Stopping the fermentation by pouring the tin out on a plate, lightly rubbing it out and letting it set for initially 1/2 hour and then a couple more times over a week or two for 5 or so minutes will make all the difference in the world. It will become sublime. No longer bland, harsh or one dimensional. Try it. You'll like the results.
I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I have smoked so many Virginia's over my years in pipe smoking and this one ranks near the very top. The absolute Pinnacle in my opinion is McClelland's 40th Anniversary, but the quality of leaf in this blend Rivals (if not exceeds) the Virginia's that McClelland uses in their blends. I know high praise, but that's no lie. I have no idea why this blend only has a 4-star review on TP.com, but I think that's crazy low. 5-star blend all the way. Check out Tobacco Reviews.com if you don't believe me. A+ smoke, every single time. You can't go wrong with this blend...
I heard a lot about this tobacco and decided to see what the hype was about. Very spicy, slightly tart in that way of good Virginias, packs easy and burns cool...Don't be too aggressive though..the nicotine will sneak up on you fast..Overall a great medium strength Full-flavored Virginia flake...Thanx again C and D.
I'll be putting a more detailed review on Tobaccoreviews.com, but for now, let me say that I highly recommend this blend. It is evidently the last of Cornell & Diehl's 2015 Virginia crop. Fresh out of the tin I can detect that dark, stewed fruit, a little earthiness, and that ketchup, bbq note we expect from this type of blend. The smoke is pretty thick and creamy, and I definitely get an earthy, plummy flavor. There is also a very light floral note that comes and goes for me. And I don't mean a Lakeland essence. More of a clover-like flavor. There is a little rough edge to this blend, especially near the bottom of the bowl, but not too bad. I pack my pipe in chunks, and once lit, it stays lit pretty well. Didn't need to dry it at all. The aging potential for this is very great, I think. I expect my other tins to become even sweeter and smoother over time. Definitely worth a try. Get while there is still some.
