After trying Nightcap I went on a bit of an English blend binge and this was one of the few tins my local B&M store had lying around. Picked it up out of curiosity and was not disappointed! Nightcap has a bit of perique in it, this has a bit of oriental. The oriental weaves in and out of the smoke coming in the form of a little tartness, but not so much as to overpower the smokiness of the latakia. I don't really get much virginia from this, but it tastes great none the less. Comparing it once again to Nightcap, it's slightly weaker in terms of strength of flavour. The latakia doesn't hit as hard. I do like that when I want something lighter but YMMV.
A nice mild English blend.
A perfectly balanced mild English blend
I tried Royalty only recently, looking for a replacement for My Mixture 965, which I’ve been smoking every day for many years until Dunhill abruptly discontinued it. Royalty is a good replacement. It’s not the same as 965 - it’s rather milder, but all the flavor and complexity is there. Also, the sweetness of the Virginias is more noticeable in Royalty than in 965, but still very much in the background, while the Latakia takes center stage with a balanced, even-handed smokiness that will remain in your whiskers for hours afterward. It always burns all the way down to the bottom of the bowl with rarely a relight required, leaving nothing but white ash and a fascinating sweet smoky bowl aroma.
This will be one of my regulars, I found it to be one of the better Davidoff tobaccos. Medium smoke is nice and smooth, doesn't get hot, long burn.
