Joe Case Pipes are well known among fans of American-made artisan pipes. After forty years in media, Case decided to step away and focus on his passion project, tobacco pipes.
An avid smoker since his early twenties, Case developed a passion for pipes, something he hopes will turn others from cigarettes as he did.
Case views pipes as a leisurely activity, something to relax with and enjoy amongst friends and family. It is through this view that he makes his pipes. While they are still able to be enjoyed while working, his tobacco pipes are intended for socializing and enjoying yourself.
Case’s take on classic shapes are whimsical, memorable and have developed something of a cult following among collectors.
A longtime resident of Nashville, Case brings his distinctive Southern style and over forty years of woodworking experience into his work. His care and attention that goes into his pipes are clear to see. He will go so far as to spend a whole day on one smoking pipe, just to get it right.
One of Case's major inspirations is his own preferences. As a fan of poker smoking pipes, he makes a high number of that shape. It goes towards his leisure view on smoking tobacco. With its flat bottom, a poker can rest on its own, so you would only need to pick it up to take a puff when you want.
When we asked Case about why he liked smoking pipes and what makes for a good one, he was very clear about it.
"The thing has to smoke well! That means it should have a good, easy draw and smoke effortlessly. The smoker should be able to draw all they want, or just sit and sip at it," Joe said.
It’s that combination of class, innovation, and style that we are proud to offer.
