If there was ever a tobacco blend that was as seductive, as sweetly enticing as its name implies, than Black Raspberry is it. This standard aromatic mixture of Burley, Virginia, and Cavendish tobacco has been flavored with a liberal sprout of rasberry flavor. Not only will this blend taste like a sweet tart, but it will smell as if you are lodged deep in the heart of a world famous pastry shop.

It seems that most of the raspberry scent is in the pre smoked tobacco. It doesn’t leave a strong room note, and the raspberry is a very subtle taste.

    Lane's Black Raspberry

Nice, cool, pleasant smoke. I use a 12 pipe rotation with four tobaccos in the rotation. Black Raspberry is replacing MacBaren's Plum Cake and the three pipes I have dedicated to it are a Peterson St. Pat's bent Dublin, a Savinelli bent apple natural, and a Brebbica Sun bent apple with meerschaum lining. This tobacco did well in all three. It has a forgiving pack, as long as you do not pack too tightly. The tin note is very inviting, my wife and daughter report the room note as very nice. The raspberry flavor is very lite, but lingers as a nice after taste. It is clear from the taste that quality tobacco is used in this aromatic, unlike some who use casing to mask subpar leaf. I give it a four star rating, which is the highest rating I give any longer to aromatics. I have become just too fond of nonaromatics. The other tobaccos in my current rotation are Sutliff's Black Cordial, Peter Stokabye's English Oriental, and Hearth and Home's Ten to Midnight.

    Lane Limited Black Raspberry

In the interest of full disclosure I should say I generally prefer English tobaccos. However, I do not smoke in the house and I live in a part of the country where the climate is sub-tropical. For me that means it is too hot for about half the year to really enjoy English tobacco because it is simply too heavy for me to smoke in the heat and humidity. I therefore turn to aromatics which are lighter. I am very particular about aromatics since most of them usually disappoint me in one way or another. I am pleased to say that Lane Limited Black Raspberry is actually pretty good, (fairly high praise coming from me), in that the raspberry taste lingers through most of the bowl, and the quality of the tobacco is very good. The raspberry is not a prominent flavor but it was distinctly there in the background until the last quarter or so of the bowl. This tobacco will bite you if you push it so take your time and let it burn at its own rate. It requires some drying time and a few re-lights were required. I might or might not buy this again. I will make that decision once I get to the bottom of the jar. Pipe used: Owl custom Ol' Doinyo Lengai.

    A favorite

After reading the reviews on this Black Raspberry by Lane on the interwebs, I knew that I had to try it, I decided on an 8oz bag......well first and second bowl right out of the gate in a brand new pipe I wasn't that impressed, but the following day something had changed maybe just the pipe itself? Now I can't stay out of the bag......it's become one of my favorites (kinda little smoking a PopTart) very tasty and smooth as long as your sipping it....just ordered another 16 ounces to cellar!!

    Lane Limited Black Raspberry

I'm usually a straight Virginia guy and have avoided heavy flavorings in the past, but I've decided to expand my horizons. That being said, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this tobacco. Once lit, it burned evenly all the way down the bowl, no gurgling in the bottom. There was no bite ever and the raspberry taste was quite strong in the beginning and was still there (albeit a little weaker) at the end. The room note is very pleasant and so is the lingering raspberry aftertaste. I bought a 1 oz bag to try it out and my wife has agreed that I need to make a larger purchase. This one is a nice sweet treat.
