Lightly sweet from the Virginias and a decent enough nicotine hit to please even fans of much headier stuff. For an affordable and mild blend, the Danish version of Moder Mixture is a real find. Expect to enjoy the smoke as much as you love the tin note on this true-to-smell blend.

First time in 30 years...
I had placed my pies in a drawer for 30+ years, but decided to jump back in the pool. Forgotten what I used to smoke and decided on Scottish and Modern to start. Perhaps a bit bold on my part, but actually I have been enjoying both (outside). Neither were as harsh as I recalled from my earlier days, and do have a bite, but not overwhelming. The Nicotine hit is a bit hard, but nothing worse than a cigar. The Scottish is more on the robust side than Modern, which has that nice cavendish aroma and more towards an aromatic style yet holding true to a more traditional blend.
a medium body / mildly sweet natural flavored smoke with no tongue bite
enjoyable mid-price range product
My husband was thrilled with how good it was.
Will be buying more from this company. It came promptly.
I will approach this as a comparison between the original and modern mixture. The original is more of ready rubbed slower burn and more intense sharp flavors. The modern is more like ribbon cut more rounded taste burns faster and much more mellow on the mouth. The taste is much more pronounced on the original the modern is tamed to a significant extent but it was sweeter. Room note on both will not win you any affection. I guess you will have to try and judge for your self because I cannot say that I liked one more than the other.
This is my first taste of Mac Baren Mixture Modern Danish Pipe Tobacco , and I can't make up my mind yet.
Lots of nicotine
This blend has more than just the "decent enough nicotine" mentioned in the description, and it's actually quite strong. It is also not "true-to-smell," the tin note is very sweet and gentle while it smokes quite the opposite. If you're into a harsh blend with nicotine that will slap you in the face, this is a good choice.
