Full, ripe Virginias are sliced and mixed with Burley and a nice dark Cavendish. Add just a touch of Latakia and hints of rum and plum flavoring and you’ve got Plum Cake by Mac Baren. First introduced to the market in 1957, its been a favorite of pipe smokers for more than 50 years.

A nice navy blend. Needs a little dry time. I smoke this around the holidays. No bite and I am told the room note is nice.
Been smoking this pipe tobacco since the late '70s, I look forward to every bowl full...
An excellent blend, great flavor, even burn overall a favorite of mine. Priced right.
Excellent tast and even burn.
When I first smoked this over 340 years ago there was a distinct aroma of a plum cake upon opening the tin. This is no longer there - it just smells like a blend of tobaccos. The taste is not as rich as it used to be either. I like it, but not enough to smoke every day. In comparison with the Plumcake of 30 years ago, I find it disappointing.
I have been smoking the pipe for over 35 years and need to say that this is one of the worst tobacco that I have ever smoked. No taste; where is the plum? And the rum is nonexistent. Bland, with lots of tongue bite! This tin is on the way to the trash can!
I am a fairly new pipe smoker and I thought this blend was fantastic. The tin note was fantastic and it smoked like a dream. I didn’t get any bite, which was a concern from other reviews. I ordered more to age. Cheers !!
Without the bite issue, I'd rate this a 5-star blend. The latakia is so subtle that even those who don't like English blends should enjoy Plumcake. If I wasn't aware that it contained a touch of Latakia, I doubt that I'd be able to identify it. Plumcake is so delicious with a great tin-note. In my first review, I noted how a charcoal filter will solve the bite issue. I've since found that it also will not bite in a small/medium meerschaum lined Dublin bowl. Plumcake is that good that it's definitely worth dedicating meerschaum lined briar.
This is truly a classic.
