Full, ripe Virginias are sliced and mixed with Burley and a nice dark Cavendish. Add just a touch of Latakia and hints of rum and plum flavoring and you’ve got Plum Cake by Mac Baren. First introduced to the market in 1957, its been a favorite of pipe smokers for more than 50 years.

Being a new pipe smoker, I was expecting Plumcake to smell sweeter than this actually did, but it still has become a fantastic choice. Open the tin and it smells like a campfire - absolutely wonderful! This doesn't require much drying, but burns slow and smooth with a lovely room note - definitely recommend!
A very complex aromatic. Virginia is the star with just enough top note to make an outstanding smooth luxury smoke. Will only get better with age. I love it just the way it is.
The smoke does offer up some sweetness here an there, mixed with a light smokey taste. Very well could be a everyday smoke. But to me its kinda low on the wow factor. It does have a nice room note so i feel. Would definetly offer it up to someone to try it is a good smoke ,strength to me is a 2 . A agree with others before me, definetly a sipping smoke ,dont get in no hurry.. burns well stays lit nice ,burns down to a nice ash. On avg i tamp it about 4 times per bowl.. the flavor stays pretty consistent throughout .
This is an extra nice tobacco but is a bit weak on flavor. If your looking for lots of rum and plum....look elsewhere. Also don't smoke with a short pipe or puff frequently or your tongue will be bitten off. If you have a filter or a longer pipe you will be much better off or smoke super slow. It's a real good smoke that burns cool as long as you don't go too fast
This is my personal favorite navy blend. Latakia adds a nice smooth and smoky note and the topping is light.
Being new to piping 4 stars may be a bit generous but the tobacco smoked as described! The tobacco out of the tin was moist and didn't need any drying. It packed and stayed lit to the bottom of the bowl. The plum/rum flavor was quite subtle. I smoked this tobacco on a rainy day and it was quite satisfying. I have much to learn about pipe smoking but the journey thus far has been most pleasurable.
