    Note: For Packing This Pipe

Posted by Jason on 1st Jun 2020

I forgot to mention: You should pack this pipe at the bottom by placing your pinky finger down the front of the bowl and packing with light pressure towards the back bottom of the bowl where the draft hole is located. This allows for a much smoother and slower burn that also prevents charring from the draft hole area. Do not gravity feed the bottom. After packing to the draft hole as described above, you can then pack the pipe as normal.... using gravity feed, then light pressure, then firm pack at the top.

    Molina Unfinished Sandblast 101

This pipe is for 9 mm filters... but due to the placement of the draft hole, a standard charcoal filter (e.g. Dr. Perl Jr.) will not work as the smoke hits the side of the filter rather than through the filter. This makes the standard charcoal filter useless. I recommend the use of a Savinelli 9mm balsa filter to reduce moisture, which will be effective as it will reduce and absorb moisture even when the smoke hits the side of the filter, as it does in this model. The internal draft of this pipe is configured very similar to that of the Savinelli dry system or Peterson system pipe, with moisture collecting at the very bottom of the void left beneath the filter at the bottom of the internal portion of the stummel. Basically, this pipe acts as a dry system pipe with the ability to accept a 9mm balsa filter. Again, do not use or by charcoal filters for this pipe or you will suffer a very poor draw. Another option is simply fitting a 3mm adapter to the stem and smoke without a filter for a much better draw. The pipe smokes well, otherwise without the filter. The sandblast is excellent, balance is excellent, and makes a good jaw hanger so that you can read or write/work with the pipe in mouth. It is most comfortable in the mouth without a rubber end piece since the end is wide. Overall it is a beautiful pipe that will add character and more depth and beauty as it is used. The briar will darken and develop a patina with continued use. Don't be discouraged by how it looks at first... like a knotty cork. Your pipe will transform with use.... and a little application of Halcyon wax.
