Denmark was one of the lands historically held by Vikings from 793 until 1066. Vikings used the land as a home base and launching point for their raids throughout the world, conquering and pillaging villages as far away as North America.
Legendary sailors, the Vikings utilized their version of a compass to help their travels. The Vegvisir was not a compass such as the ones we think of today. It does not have a magnetic needle pointing north, for example, so it will not point you on your way home. What it was, though, was a series of Norse runes that traditionally served as a protective spell, ensuring the safe voyage for the travelers that held it. As the Huld Manuscript describes, "if this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known."
That is why the Nording Compass pipe series, with the Vegvisir sigil stamped on the bottom, will help you find your way.
Nording's interpretation of Poker smoking pipes, this is yet another unique and creative design by Erik Nording and his company. They utilize the same high quality briar as the rest of their smoking pipes, but smaller and in a smooth shape. With a non-traditional stem made out of aluminum, this is a great smoking pipe to go with you on the road.
We offer you thirteen different Nording Compass smoking pipes, coming in a wide variety of colors. You can get a traditionally stained pipe, black or a more natural brown, or you can get blue, copper, or gunmetal gray. There are even rusticated versions that make the briar look like a corncob, paying homage to American general Douglas MacArthur.
Whichever Nording Compass pipe you get, you will be able to find your way thanks to the protections of the Vegvisir you carry with you.
