Nice Copper Spigot Pipe 2022 Christmas Pipe

Posted by David Ellsworth on 2nd Oct 2022

Overall a very handsome pipe and much to my style. The Peterson 408 shape is sort of a cross between a large Prince, which is a shape I like, and a 1/8 bent Apple which is another shape I like. I like the very craggy rustication as it feels good in my hands and also looks good especially with the black antique over dark cherry red staining. The bit is well shaped and the bite isn’t too thick nor the button. I love the look of copper both shiny and when it’s developed some darkening and being a metal on metal spigot mount it’s safe and easy to remove even when hot to clear an airway or mop up some extra moisture. It’s got a sizable bowl and over all the drilling is well executed and is spot on in the center of the bowel and the stummel airway in the shank so a pipe cleaner easily passes even without breaking it down. The one slight fault in an otherwise perfectly engineered pipe is the airway though centered is a touch low in the bowl. This means the bowl needed to bored maybe a 1/32” inch(1mm) deeper as it means the current boring causes a slight trough effect in the bowl. Being a slightly bent pipe it really isn’t an issue but had it been a straight pipe they slight trough tends to make for a wet pipe as it channels moisture into the airway, with the slight bend it’s not an issue. If I choose I can easily fix it by lowering the bottom of the bowl slightly. Overall it’s a very handsome and well made pipe and Peterson should be proud.
