In all fairness I did not want to do a review on this pipe until I had the chance to really try things out & "take it for a spin". Well it's been just over a month now and this is a GREAT pipe. I admit that after just getting back into pipes after a several year hiatus there was a "relearning curve" here- as in relearning to pack it like you're supposed to, not smoking it like a steam engine, and giving it a chance to break in right. I didn't - and expectedly, ended up having to both do a little pipe mud patching mend my ways. Thankfully, with a few adjustments made now, the pipe is breaking in nicely. Love the way it looks, love how it smokes. Just a great pipe.
Purchased this venerable pipe after months of considering various pipe brands from various manufacturers to get myself for my thirty-first birthday and am very glad that I went with the Peterson. Pipe arrived promptly, safely packaged and friends it's a wonderful feeling when you open the signature green Peterson box, see the green Peterson pouch and reveal your new pipe for the first time. The Peterson Killarney 80 Ebony in person is as sleek, black, shiny and intimidating as you can imagine from the photographs - the angular curvatures are charming and the draw is perfect. This is my first time utilizing a lucite rather than vulcanite stem, it took a few days to get used to the heavier mouth feel but am now thoroughly converted (at least for this pipe) - not to mention that the thing is damn near indestructible and doesn't oxidize the least little bit. I'd say more, but as it just so happens its that time of early evening when I feel the need to reach for my Peterson and a glass of bourbon (that's Irish-American cultural interchange for you.) Enjoy friends, for all those first timers who decide to join the "Peterson club." Cheers!
