What’s not to like ? If lost I’d order it again. Can’t say that about all pipes.

    Peterson Std System 314

Posted by Gary on 24th Feb 2021

What new can be said of such a long lasting pipe in the Peterson catalog? Well here goes. My new pipe was packed and shipped the same day, as usual, arriving in good order. Now a days you receive a green box, and a pipe in green draw string sock, nothing more. The “good ol’ days” of getting a nice brochure and a pipe tool are long since gone. The 314 is a small pipe. The bowl will hold say, a medium size red garden radish’s worth of tobacco. The stem is bent just right for clenching and observing as you tamp and light. The sandblast finish was good. To my chagrin I discovered that the inside of the bowl was coated at the factory. Having had less than satisfactory experiences in the past with bowl coatings I really wondered about removing it before the first bowl but hey, breaking in a new pipe is enough of a chore sometimes. To my surprise the first bowl (halfway the first time) was not that bad. I’m not sure what the coating was but it was gone after the second bowl and actually did it’s duty in providing a decent break in smoke. This pipe delivers a good, dry smoke and is my first thought when packing a bag for travel or just watching the news. All in all, I’m more than satisfied with the pipe.
