A rich burley flake with a lot of depth and an anise flavor

Posted by Chris on 20th Dec 2022

I have been seeking a replacement for Edgeworth Sliced as I always loved that flake. I picked up a tin of this and though this is more complex and richer, it's been a happy discovery. This flake burns very nicely and has a very full body flavor. As you dedicate a pipe to this and get the moisture just right the anise flavor becomes fairly prominent. I do not typically like anise flavor but it's at just the right level to support the blend without overwhelming the experience. This is mildly sweet, a bit salty and develops into a fullness that reminds me of aged VA flakes. It gets full and creamy as the bowl develops. The nicotine level is a strong moderate and this flake is great for focus and concentration. Go slow if you are sensitive to nicotine. This is a great choice if you want to explore what the potential of Burley can be. If you are particularly sensitive to anise flavor, use a cob or meerschaum at first to see how you like it.

    My favorite Burley

A great tobacco. Dry it for a few minutes and you'll be rewarded with an earthy, smooth and balanced smoke. A hint of cocoa is present which wraps everything into a great tobacco.

    Solan I aged burley

Posted by Lee on 30th Dec 2020

I have been on a burley kick lately usually in a Hackert pipe, I’ve smoked many flakes over the years and this is right up there with the likes of the now defunct edge worth flake for a substitute. Ordered a few more for the cellar, contrary to popular thought aging dose add another layer and mellowing to a burley flake if it’s good, usually pack a pipe night before and with good cup of coffee next day all's right with the world.

The best burley flake in the history of the world! Dry it ... pack and smoke right out the tin ... do with it whatever you like !! If you love tobacco for just being tobacco, no top notes, flavor soaked junk ... just old nutty woodsy smoke then you will fall in love with abf Solani! PLEASE TRY IT

Yes, it needs to dry out a bit before the light. Well worth the wait! I absolutely love it!

Solani Aged Burley Flake No. 656

This burley flake is soft on the pallet. The nic. hit is just past medium. There is plenty of flavor for the sipper ( like a chocolate meat sauce) but also a burley punch for the puffers. The price is a shade more than other burley flakes but I feel this flake is worth it.
