Cellared for now but I’ve heard really good things from friends.
Having some Sutliff Crumble Kake Aged Barrel # 1. Don't think I am going to get any more of this. First couple of days it had a nice apple note and some apple flavor while smoking it. By the end of the week apple note was gone and so was the apple flavor. Even rehydrated it just to try and nothing. Disappointing, I have been a fan of Sutliff Crumble Kake series. Think they dropped the ball on this one.
Very disappointed for now but put it in the cellar.
The tin note is out of this world.....it smells like apple brandy which is exactly what it was aged in (an apple brandy barrel). The kake itself is beautiful to look at. It has a beautiful pressed texture where you can see all the different elements that make this kake. It is over all dark, but has flakes of golden virginia and lighter brown burley along with the black cavendish. I found that it burns best if you take out a bowl full, rub it slightly between your hands-don't over do it- and let to air dry 10 or 15 minutes. It packs easily and burns evenly.....the smoke produces is like incense from the heavens! It's difficult for me to put into words how scrumptious this kake is.....it's like smoking black velvet! This is an all day smoke, but is in limited supply! Once the 4400 tins are gone, that's it! I will admit that on two separate Saturdays I have smoked this all day and it just gets better all the time.
Because of all the hype, I bought two tins. Have not tried it yet. :)
I used my prized Poul Winslow Danish pipe for this. Nice flavor burnt well, produced lots of smoke effortlessly
This is a superb blend that really is a special treat! A smooth Virginia blend that is balanced in its strength and flavours! Not boozy at all and the subtle apple aroma compliments the Virginia tobaccos beautifully! No aromatic aftertaste, as you would expect from a blend that is naturally aromatic from its barrel aging! I hope Sutliff makes this blend again. It’s a winner! Don’t change anything!
