The addition of a thin saddle bit stem elevates this pipe to a new level. Aside from the visual perception unique to thin stems, it makes the pipe ever so comfortable to hold in the mouth. Even though this pipe has been lined with meerschaum, the outward briar bowl has been very carefully taken care of, making sure it is every so easy on the eyes.

From the Vauen website, you learn that the meerschaum in this pipe is “Weiner” meerschaum, i.e. cultured, or lab-grown. I don’t think it’s as good as a block, but it passes the wet finger test. I also think it’s better than what is being used in the Vauen Lime series. I ding one star because the metal band on the stem came a bit rusty or something.
