    Great, simple pipe.

I bought this to smoke Mac Baren's Bold Kentucky from. It's a well made, simple pipe. Lightweight and easy to hold in your mouth while you work with your hands. The bamboo stem also seems to be pretty sturdy, I've smoked it a few dozen times and no bite marks have yet to be seen on it. Will buy another when this one burns out (if it ever does!)

    Corn cob pipe

I recently bought an Old Dominion Virginia Planter corn cob pipe. I really enjoyed smoking it. The draw hole in the stem is pretty big so I really had to pack it tight but smoked well. Would buy another!

    OD Planter

Posted by Max Wojcik on 8th May 2019

For the myriad of attributes, pipes can have, OD cobs are the best all around, IMO. When I got my first Planter, I had nine briars. I got the Old Dominion to be a home pipe: save briars for public appearances. After one smoke of an OD, five of the briars went in the trash. Only one of the remaining four have been smoked more than twice since. And I've bought another six Planters and three Kings. I do love the fat woody taste of briars, in the one I have w a decent draw. But it's so hard to find a good one, even up to and over $700 so I read. The sweet light taste of cobs is very pleasant. And I can smoke ten plus bowls a day in the one cob. There are other cob companies around. But what really makes OD pipes stand out is the bamboo stem. Other cobs are light but have lowest denominator stem/bit combos. These, the draw is so sensitive. Lightest touch gets you flavor. Pull hard and get your fire roaring. So get a draw this smooth, I don't know what you'd have to pay to find in a boutique briar. And the round bit is great, IMO. When I clench another top end cob, the bit fills half my mouth. This one is pretty much shaped like a cigarette and can be breathed around fine. I'll buy more briars. But rarely. Cuz it seems that while it's still hit and miss at $150+ even for an estate, $15 is a sure thing in an Old Dominion cob. To take to town. Cuz the smoking enjoyment from an Old Dominion is far outweighing any yuppy derision over my cheaping out with the choice.

    Fantastic Cob!

I love this pipe! I have several Missouri Meerschaum pipes, and while they're similar to each other in a lot of ways, they're also different. Takes a little getting used to the stem from normally having a plastic/acrylic bit to clench with, but it still clenches just fine. The stem comes in a little higher than the bottom of the bowl so prepare to either pipe mud it, load the bottom with throwaway tobacco, or you won't burn all the leaf you pack. Then again, if you pack via the air pocket method, then you won't have any waste at all. All in all, it's a great smoker and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cob produced like the days of old. Feels great in the hand.
