Comparing a heady Latakia blend to sunshine might seem odd, but we’ve seen many a Gaslight fan do just that. This is a full and super-strong pipe tobacco, but it is also complex and citrusy enough to please even the most discerning smoker. A slow burning mix of Latakia, Oriental and Virginia, you could call this a Plug, but it’s special and so much more than that. You’ll want a sharp knife and a discerning palate to appreciate this one.

    A walk in Victorian London

Posted by Joel F. on 26th Jan 2018

Where do I begin? The first tin of this I ever bought I was in search for my first English blend and was entering uncharted territory. Upon opening the tin I was greeted with the smell of creosote, spice, earth, sweetness, leather, and something that can only be described as sea like. Right away I felt like I had made a mistake but decided to load up a bowl. As I put flame to the dark, murky, earth colored leaves that filled my pipe I was immediately awe-struck. Smoke, spice, leather, deep, dark, contemplative flavor. Immediately I was adrift in thought of walking down cobblestone streets lighted by the soft glow of gas lanterns; among horse and buggies, women in expensive hoop skirts and men in suits with top hats. The smell of chimney smoke wafting through the air intermingled with the smell of exotic spices, incense, vintage leather and the slightest smell of the musty, briny ocean water. As I entered back to reality, I retrieved my copy of the Complete Sherlock Holmes, lit a candle, poured a dram and settled in for what was one of the most relaxing, contemplative, and mysteriously wonderful evening I have ever experienced.

    bordering nasty

So, that's what a Cyprian Latakia tastes like. Overwhelming. I'll smoke it up eventually, but it won't be replaced with the same thing.

    Complex ...

Posted by LeRoy W. Lee on 26th Oct 2017

This rich, dense Latakia-forward plug from G.L. Pease proves once again he is the "Master" in this Old London series of fine pipe tobaccos. He has many English blends out there, but none that I can detect are as complex and "delicious" looking as this... Truly, most appetizing in it's appeal to the eye. The flavor is another story all together. On the char-light you get a Latakia hit with the VA.'s soon to follow. The true light yields the fine Turkish/Orientals which not only add a subtle hint of spiciness, but to help balance the Latakia and keep it in check ... Greg Pease has a love affair with Latakias, and this is love at first taste. So, do yourself a flavor, enjoy this as a regular smoke, but looks special-enough for those "special occasions. It WILL not disappoint!!!`LeRoy L.

    It's a GAS!

Posted by Adam Valleau on 6th Jun 2017

I just finished writing a review of G. L. Pease's "Jackknife". It was a bit too strong and agressive for me. Not so with "Gaslight". This IS a strong blend, but for some reason it just doesn't come off like that. The flavors are complex and I noted a distinct nuttiness on the exhale through the nose. I like nutty! The Latakia is there but not too forward. Just the right amount. I like the woody/leathery taste and aroma of Latakia IN MODERATION, but I don't care to smoke an old shoe. Gaslight has no shoes in it. Just lots of great flavor! Definitely one of the best Pease blends I've tried. Get some and you'll see! Cheers

    Fantastic Flavor

As a fairly new pipe smoker who comes from a background of cigar smoking I was looking for a pipe tobacco with full flavor and smokey sweetness and Gaslight delivers in Spades. The smoke is oily and dense but very satisfying. This is easily in my top 5 right out of the gate.
