The difference between balkan and english style tobaccos are the proportions of the Latakia to the Oriental and Virginia leaves. This is a medium bodied balkan blend, and has a decent level of smooth Oriental tobaccos present. This tobacco has a moderate nicotine level, so it is best enjoyed by a smoker looking to relax or smoke after a meal. Order your tin of Balkan Mixture tobacco today!

What is in it?
This blend is an English mixture of the Balkan variety, and is presented in a fine ribbon that borders on shag cut.  This blend uses the following tobaccos.
Latakia: Cyprean Latakia is a main component of this blend
Oriental: The Oriental (Turkish) is quite strong and pungent.
Virginia:  Virginias form the backbone of this blend.  Although I can't tell what type of Virginia is used, it is quite bright and sweet.

What does it smoke like?
Balkan Mixture is a strong Balkan blend.  At first glance the Latakia seems to be too large a part of the mixture for a true Balkan.  However, smoking reveals a very strong but well balanced blend.  The Latakia and Oriental combine to form a woody taste.  I am not sure if the latakia is processed in an unusual way, or if the Oriental is impacting the taste more than usual.  The overall impression is dry, piney, and pungent in a very good way.  Many tobacco blends with flavor this strong are unbalanced.  This blend is balanced with all of the components carrying an equal load.  The nicotine is strong, and a bowl coats the mouth.  A traditional smoke that satisfies any longing for an English blend.

How to prepare it?
A fine ribbon cut with suprisingly long ribbons. This loads into a pipe easily but will benefit from several minutes of drying time.  Pack fairly loose and let the tamper compress your pack as needed.  Smoked too fast and the flavor turns ashy, and the nicotine strengthens.  Slow and steady wins this race.

Purchased in bulk, as I'm a regular smoker of Balkan Supreme. This has a good flavor, though is a bit wet, and thus tends to leave a rather large dottle.

Not a bad blend for fans of Latakia searching for a subtle sweetness to their smoke. The Latakia is smokey and earthy - balanced well by the Virginia and condimental tobaccos added. I'm supposing that the little sweetness is due to the infamous Lakeland additive from this historic manufacturer. All in all, I really enjoy this blend. The cut is a little stringy, and I do opt for a little dry time for a bowl's worth (20 mins suits me). Patiently puffed, this blend burns cool and well leaving little dottle or moisture to worry about. Great for a late night smoke while buried in the pages of a good book.
