Bluebird Contrast
I've been a pipe smoker since 1965 and during that period have smoked a variety of pipes ranging from those meant for fireplace fuel to Charatan and Dunhill. My credential are that I think I know pipes and that I'm old. That being said, you can understand my reluctance to try a new name. But on seeing these, I must admit it was smoke at first sight. It is beautifully finished and the bowl, although somewhat neoclassical in the Italian spirit, fits perfectly with the shank. It is very light weight and the shortness posed no problem even though I've never owned a pipe less than 5 1/2". So how come the 4 (4 1/2 really) rating? Truthfully, the pipe smokes extremely well, but I've only owned it for 3 weeks and is nowhere near broken in. If it continues to perform as well after 50 smokes, then 5 stars will be in order. I think it'll make it and recommend one as a tentative member of any collection.
