Planta Pipe Tobacco is an older tobacco company, founded by Dr. Manfred Obermann in 1956. It stayed a family business, passing down from Manfred to his children, then to his grandson Nils Obermann.
Planta manufactured their tobacco in Berlin, Germany, and was a successful business, acquiring many different brands of tobacco, some known on an international level.
In 2019, Planta was acquired by the Mac Baren Tobacco Company, which took control of the tobaccos under the Planta fold.
In a press release announcing the acquisition, Planta managing director Lukas Stiller talked about the takeover. "Like us, Mac Baren is an old, well-established family business, and we are very happy that the legacy of our parents and grandparents will continue," Stiller said.
Stiller is correct that Mac Baren has treated his family's legacy with the respect and veneration it deserves. Carefully producing and recreating their blends, Mac Baren's take on Planta tobaccos is an appropriate homage to the creation started in 1956 by Dr. Obermann.
One great example of this is the Planta Danish Black Vanilla pipe tobacco. An aromatic tobacco, this is a combination of Burley and Virginia tobaccos with a vanilla flavoring added into the mix.
With this blend, you will get a pleasant room note with a sweet and savory flavor. This adds up to a smooth and enjoyable smoking experience, something that Planta and Mac Baren have done their best to maintain.
