The Mixture blend from Mac Baren is an old favorite. Made since the late 1950s, it’s a mild Aromatic flavored with liquor, vanilla and other mysterious bits. A blend of many different tobaccos, it will have you reminiscing about an afternoon fishing with your grandfather.

    MacBaren Mixture, Scottish Blend

Posted by Adrian Purcell on 13th Oct 2020

Upon opening the tin there is no distinctive aroma. But when smoked this is my favorite tobacco blend - mild, but a very satisfying tobacco taste. It leaves a lovely aroma in the room after being smoked.

    MacBaren Mixture Scottish Pipe Tobacco

Posted by Hoagie Pedersen on 11th Aug 2020

Have been smoking this mixture for over 55 years and no other tobacco comes even close to this blend. Love it. Only complained is the difference in taste from bag to can, bags are cheaper but don’t have the right taste and smell.

    35 Different Tobacco Leaves

Posted by James Rodgers on 9th Aug 2019

Yes, Mac Baren uses 35 different tobacco leaves in this mixture... and its sublime smoking. It's all Virginia, as this is a mixture - not a blend. Scottish is a semi-sweet, semi-aromatic, complex tobacco taste. I like sweet, so I gravitate to the natural sweetness that's inherent in Virginia leaf. The drawback of Virginia: you don't huff... you savor at a low ember and enjoy all the sweet, somewhat earthy, smokey, spiced nuances this mixture offers. Most rewarding just as it nears the end... that thin cool smoke that you coax from the last remaining bit is the sweetest, and beckons you for another bowl. It's my every day all day tobacco and has been for the last 24 years. Package Note: Hay, molasses (think chewing tobacco) Burn: Hot. This burns hot and fast if not careful. Pack a 'loose' bowl - don't pack tight. Slow your cadence or it'll get hot, sour/acrid and will bite. Taste: Medium to mild. Varies from bowl to bowl; sweet to semi- sweet brown sugar-like grassy hay is consistent and dominates the flavor profile. It can be yeasty bready, earthy, slightly bright with citrus, chocolate, spice (mulling spice - not hot spice) and in some instances smokey with a slight raisin taste... it's a complex profile. Room Note: Medium to light. Sweet molasses and hay-like aroma. Though I've noticed a slight floral aroma as well... similar but not to the degree as St. Bruno. Nicotine Level: Mild Aftertaste: Pleasant sweet and soft mouthfeel. I can't speak to the aging and mellowing of this, as the longest I've ever aged this mixture is 1 month... I go through a pound a month. Besides, I'd call it somewhat mellow already. I split it up equally and store it in short and squat 16 oz amber colored Ball jars. Remember, divide the oz of the jar by 4, and that's how many ozs of tobacco you can fit. For all its complexity, this mixture is a somewhat mellow stalwart tobacco that's in almost every seasoned piper's rotation. You owe it to yourself to try a little. *Note: Haven't ordered tobacco online until June of this year. I gotta say, Tobaccopipes has the best prices... unreal. I swear, I think my 'old' tobacconist buys online and resells. Hope the FDA and/or Congress doesn't ruin this.

    Good when aged

Posted by Al janabi on 12th Jul 2018

This tobacco is very flavorful and relatively complex. Sadly very sharp when fresh, it tends to burn very hot and need very slow cadence. I found out when it is aged for a few years though it mellows significantly and results in very well married blend. Worth the wait!
