Admittedly I love aromatics but wanted to try something different. Navy Flake is a smooth smoking flake. Delicious flavor. Mac Baren continues to impress.
MAC BAREN NAVY FLAKE
This is a brand that I first tried in 1975 and with some alternating between Condor flake and Gold Block, have used quite consistently. I have no superlatives to deliver on this particular tobacco, but to say that it is consistent, satisfying and a tobacco that one can sit back in the comfort of a special chair in a special room and read with its companionable silence.
MacBaren's Navy Flake
Excellent mild, flavorful tobacco.
Amazing Virginia flake
I know it has Burley and Cavendish in it, but what I taste in this delicious flake is mostly the Virginia, sweetened a bit by the Cavendish and the floral-coconut sweetness of rum. These soft flakes light easily and smoke consistently down to grey ash, caramelizing a bit for the latter three-quarters of the bowl. I miss Peterson's "Signature Flake" and this is a good replacement, but stands on its own right as a sweet but balanced and easily enjoyed all-day smoke of medium strength.
This Navy flake has been around since the mid-1960s. Mac Baren Navy flake is about 70% Burley and 30% Brown Virginia Leaf. The added flavor is mostly honey, with a light sprinkle of dark rum. Smoke the flakes folded up or rubbed completely out. Navy Flake is a fine pipeful that is sure to keep you awake on the balls to four watches. MacBaren Navy Flake May not suit new pipers, as it can be strong in the lady nicotine area. Either way, the taste, and aroma are luscious! Chocolatey Burley tobaccos combined with the freshly mown hay of Virginia’s do magical things!
My first smoke
Brand new pipe smoker here. A little research pointed me towards Marc Baren Navy Flake and Im really enjoying it. Smooth and no bite. Granted, zero experience for comparison. But will definitely be a repeat purchase.
Mac Baren's Navy Flake
Very, very good tobacco!!! I give it a 41/2 star rating. I reserve 5 stars for Solani ABF. If you are a Burley fan this could be an all-day smoke. No bite unless you puff like a train. Recommended highly. Semper Fi Mike
Mac Baren Navy Flake
Excellent flake nicely presented. Requires little drying time. Good folded or rubbed out. The pleasant taste of hay and leather. Leaves little dottle at the finish. All in all an excellent smoke. One caveat: this last shipment I got the tin seal was broken had to jar it immediately upon receiving so check that with your tin.
True Navy Flake
This is the only true navy flake I've found and so the 5 stars. While there are several flakes called navy, while many are quite good, they lack the rum element to make them true navy flake. Ok, off my soapbox. This is far and away my favorite burley based fake. Fold and stuff or rubbed out, depending on what pipe I use, its a quality smoke either way. Recommend.
