They really do the job of scavenging any excess moisture that may be present and evening out the smoke overall...no harshness to the smoke. I tried smoking without the filter a non-aromatic blend and then added the filter and realized the above observation.

My only issue would be that they don't last long enough. They provide a smooth and clean smoke. I would recommend them.

I normally have used the Peterson 9mm pipe filters and I wanted to give these a try since Vauen invented the 9mm filter. These are good charcoal filters and they fit the pipe well. I have not noticed a big difference between the Peterson filters and these Vauen filters as far as flavor or absorbency goes. I tend to be a wet smoker so one filter will last me for two bowls, but you may be able to get three bowls out of each filter depending on your moisture and your tobacco strength and humidity. The big difference between the Peterson filters and these Vauen filters is the price. When you buy this 100 pack, the filter is about half the price of the Peterson filter purchased in the 40 pack! I plan to buy these Vauen filters from now on!
